Abstract

This thesis comprises a miner a logical study of two minerals:(a) Sturtite (b) Pimelite Both minerals were supplied from the collections of the Department of Geological Sciences of Durham University. Although they have already been described by several authors there are still some doubts and major contradictions between them. The present study is an attempt to clarify those problems. These two minerals were also in the Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standards (JCPDS) 1977 list of minerals for which powder diffraction data was required. The present study consists of mainly X-ray Diffraction Techniques and Thermal Techniques (Differential Thermal Analysis and Thermogravimetric Analysis). Also during the study Electron Microscope Techniques were used and Electron Microprobe Analysis obtained for both minerals.
